20 Ways to Diminish Your Risk for Breast Cancer
Recent studies suggest there is a link between breast cancer and chemicals found in commonly used beauty products for our hair, bodies and skin. Mammary cells are particularly vulnerable to these chemicals, including preservatives known as parabens—ethylparaben, butylparaben, methylparaben and propylparaben, which tend to lodge in the fatty tissue in our bodies. These chemicals, along with many others, mimic the body’s natural hormones, disrupting our endocrine system.
Researchers believe that people who develop breast cancer are more susceptible to a complex interplay of factors, including radiation and chemicals that copy natural estrogen in the body. Only a small number of women who develop breast cancer have inherited the genes for cancer.
In addition to getting yearly mammograms, regular exercise and eating a balanced diet high in grains and organic fruits and vegetables, experts recommend 20 ways to diminish your risk for developing breast cancer. One way is to familiarize yourself with harmful ingredients in body care products so you’ll know what to avoid. Other suggestions include cooking with stainless steel pots and pans and avoiding many commonly used lawn care weed killers. For more information, click here.
